A man from Linqu County, Shandong, wanted to go to jail for a night or two to “relax.” He ended up being sentenced to a much longer sentence after attacking two police officers.

A Linqu man named Duan often beat his wife while drunk. She divorced him. After the divorce, he felt a lot of pressure from different aspects of his life. He began to think that if he was detained by police for a few days, it would be relaxing. In October 2015, Duan got drunk and confronted his ex-wife at her store. The two argued and his ex-wife drove away.

Duan became angry and shattered a mirror in the store. He then called the police on himself so that he could be detained. Two officers on duty rushed to the scene.

Duan told police that he wanted to, “go to a detention center for a few days to relax.” He then got into the back seat of the police car and refused to get out. Police asked him to get out of the car and cooperate with the investigation. Duan then attacked the policemen, biting Officer Zhang’s arm and hitting him on the head and cutting Officer Wang’s finger. Duan was summoned to the police station for assaulting a police officer.

Duan was sentenced to one year and six months in prison by a Linqu court for assault and disturbing public order.
