977 million people in China listen to music every week. This is about 72% of China’s total population.

US market research firm Nielsen reported on Tuesday that Chinese consumers spend an average of 16 hours every week listening to music. 66% of Chinese people use music and media streaming services.

BBC News reported that this is still less than the number of percentage of people who listen to music every week in the United States and United Kingdom. In the US, 91% of people listen to music every week, and 85.5% of people in the UK do.

Chinese music fans are more interested in seeing live music than Americans. 57% of Chinese music fans go to concerts regularly, compared to 51% in the United States.

There is a significant difference in the music consumption habits between wealthy Chinese consumers and low-income Chinese.

83% of wealthy Chinese listen to music once a week. They prefer Western or English language music including pop, rock, and jazz. They spend an average of 914 Yuan each year on music. 53% of low-income Chinese listen to music and spend an average of 118 Yuan each year on music.

Nielsen predicts that in the next decade, Chinese will spend $56 trillion (about 368 trillion Yuan) annually on music. Young, wealthy Chinese with disposable income will consume the majority of music.

So you are insinuating that Backstreet Boys and Avril Lavigne are "music". That's generous.
