Suning Delivery Service Hires Foreign Interns for Spring Festival
Feb 01, 2016 By eChinacities.com

Suning’s express delivery service has hired a number of foreign interns to work during the Spring Festival to help deliver packages. The internship program will help the company stay up to speed as many of its employees head home for the holidays.

Samuel Keith, 26, an American student at Peking University, is one of these interns. He said that the short-term job sounded like an interesting way to explore Beijing and practice his Chinese.

Keith’s Chinese teacher Li Yunwang helped him get organized for the job, and taught him about the Chinese courier system. Li worked with Keith and another classmate from Uzebekistan named Akmal who was also working as an intern courier.

Suning’s couriers generally ride around on scooters, but the company has strict rules against novice drivers riding scooters to make deliveries. Therefore, Keith works with another courier to drive to the delivery locations. Then, Keith calls to see if the person who ordered the package is home. He sometimes needs the help of his teacher or courier partner to read the Chinese characters.

Beijingers are generally pretty shocked and confused when they see Keith show up on their doorstep, delivering a package.

What a retard. If he thinks his employer will help him out if he has an accident on the job he is in for a rude awakening. I can see it now, as he sits in his hospital room on a lengthy stay as his calls to his boss go unanswered.
