The Shenzhen Airlines passenger who attempted to start a fire on a plane while mid-flight is now brain dead. The man fell during his arrest in Guangzhou and suffered a serious head injury, according to the Chinese media.

The man had been sentenced to prison for other crimes in recent years and owed nearly one million Yuan in debts, said authorities. It is unknown whether the arson was connected to the man's debts or past crimes.

The late suspect was named Zhai Jinshun. 50 years old, he hailed from a village near Taizhou. He had a son and a daughter.

Villagers said that Zhai did business outside the village for most of the year and was not seen much. He had served time in prison 10 years ago, and was now in debt to the bank for nearly one million Yuan.

Zhai apparently tried to jump away from police at the time of his arrest and hit his head on the ground, causing a brain injury. He is currently brain dead in a Guangzhou hospital.

In addition, China's National Civil Aviation Authority has launched an investigation of Taizhou's Luqiao Airport. Investigators have looked through CCTV footage of the man in the airport and have not been able to figure out how he was able to smuggle dangerous goods past security.

Apparently he fell and now he's brain-dead. Right, of course, that happens all the time in the best of circumstances.
