Two window washers were killed on Friday afternoon in Xi'an when they were slammed into the building they were working on by a sudden gale. The two men died from their injuries in the hospital that day.

Friday late afternoon, the weather in Xi'an suddenly changed and a strong wind began to blow. The two men were working on the east side of the building, attached to ropes. They were blown away from the building and struggled midair. Then, they swung back and crashed directly into the side of the building.

The accident was recorded by a witness on a camera phone. At the time, about a dozen people were working on the building.

Chinese media referred to the window washers as “Spidermen.”

Xi'an experienced unexpected severe convective weather last Friday around 5 pm. Areas around the city experienced strong winds, and even thunderstorms.
