The “2014 City Competitiveness Blue Book,” published today in Beijing reports that Shenzhen has surpassed Hong Kong to become the most economically competitive city in China. In terms of individual per capita wealth, Hong Kong, Shenzhen, and Beijing are ranked as the top three.

In 2014, the ten most economically competitive cities in China were: Shenzhen, Hong Kong, Shanghai, Taipei, Guangzhou, Tianjin, Suzhou, Beijing, Macau, and Wuxi. These cities are mainly concentrated in the Pearl River Delta, the Yangtze River Delta, the Bohai Economic Rim and Hong Kong, Taiwan and Macau regions. China's vast central and western areas are not represented on the top ten list.

Hong Kong is ranked as first in per capita wealth. The nine other cities with the wealthiest individuals are Shenzhen, Beijing, Macau, Shanghai, Dongguan, Guangzhou, Zhuhai, Hangzhou, and Xiamen. Hong Kong has been ranked first for per capita wealth for three consecutive years.

The report was released by the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences.

All of this doesn't matter for capitalism as we know it is on its last straw of survival, soon to be replaced with a collaborative society where free and sharing will be the norm. The internet of things, 3D printers, collaborative commons are the new norm. China can lie to itself, can censor the information to its citizens letting them think that money is and will always be an end, but the idea of collaborative commons is making its way across the world like an unstoppable tsunami. Capitalism will still survive in a tiny corner of this new model and there will always be idiots to have a blind faith in it, but once the majority of people see the benefits of collaboration they will never want to go back to the old model. People need to work hand in hand, not against each others.

Reminds me of Plato's Republic in which Socrates's young companion Glaucon argues that the life of the unjust man is far more blessed than that of the just man. He would receive a standing ovation from plenty if not all chinese mainlanders. LOL. 'People need to work hand in hand, not against each others.' My friend you just boiled the Ten Commandments of the Bible down to one sentence, hahaha. What is wrong with mankind? Human nature. Unfortunately none of the 'isms', beliefs, technological advances managed to change that, none.

Now that is dirty and stupid, HK tops every other city in China for years and all of a sudden its economic competitiveness fall behind shenzhen after their umbrella movement. No wonder people say only idiots trust China's figures. Another cheap propaganda trick, Taipei is in Taiwan, Republic of China. It isn't a PRC city.

Agree. Complete and utter nonsense. More CCP rubbish. China loves taking credit for Taiwan and HK, even though they are completely independent from the mainland. Just ask locals from Taiwan and HK what they think of the mainland.

Spot on. The Olympics is a good example, despite its small population the HK team walks with honor into the arena with their own flag since the ending of WWII. Taiwan, Republic of China, needless to say is recognised as a country. When will PR.China ever learn to stop lying?
