Xinjiang Information Blackout as Rumors of New Attack Spread

Chinese authorities imposed an information blackout over the weekend in Xinjiang after seven people died in violent clashes between police and members of the Uyghur population.

According to Radio Free Asia, at least seven people died and seven more were injured in the clashes during which a young Uyghur man set off an explosive in the province’s northwestern Hotan Prefecture.

According to the World Uyghur Congress in Germany, they heard reports that people had died after people resisted ‘armed security personnel’, but they are unsure of the facts due to the blackout imposed by authorities.

Local business owners told RFA that the town is now full of riot police with frequent patrols and stringent checks. They are reportedly carrying out security checks on both Han and Uyghur citizens.

Restrictions in the Northwestern region have become increasingly strong following an anti-terror campaign launched by the government in response to last year’s frequent attacks.

The government has been criticized by rights groups overseas for its heavy handed approach to security in the region, as reports of violent raids and strict policing of Uyghurs’ religious freedoms have surfaced since the crackdown began.

Good, but not good enough, when will the world, even China, which is so pragmatic, stop using soft hands with Muslims. They are all terrorists. It is in their Koran: lie, kill, or enslave non-muslims. There is a place for Muslims, it is called hell.

God bless all muslims. And God bless the unfortunate savages like guest2709144 who are so cowardly as to not to reveal their identity as they convey their racist filth. At least the CCP knows who they are.

Ya Guest2506504, read the comment below yours to know why you are wrong. Islam is a theocracy not a religion....While on your high horse I suppose you think that Muslim violence against women is fine too. How many women would leave Islam if they were faced with death or worse. You are an idiot. Using the same rational Chamberlain did with Hitler. Nazi's is a theocracy...so is Islam....grow up out of your PC BS> Kuntmans I am surprised you have time to take away from the Islamic practice of beating women and molesting children...and attacking cartoonists. You believe in mohammed? Have fun in hell. Long live the kingdom of heaven.

They mean south west Xinjiang, not the north west, where I live. There are still many Uyghir people in the north but most of the unrest is in the south west. And we're going there for Spring Festival. It should be a break from things Chinese. Hope we're able to move about with relative freedom. Peace to all.
