Chinese Official Hiding 120 Million RMB, 37 Kg of Gold, 68 House Ownership Certificates

A Chinese government official in Hebei was found to have hidden 120 million RMB, 37 kilograms of gold, and 68 certificates of house ownership in his house in the latest corruption shock. The official was not named.

A man who did not want to be revealed identified the official as the local director in charge of water resources from Qinhuangdao.

This is not the first time this has occurred, as 200 million RMB was discovered inside a government official’s home just recently, many papers including the SCMP reported. This money allegedly broke four counting machines, that is how much there was.

He should consider himself lucky, or unlucky, that he didn’t get robbed like this man did inside his house a few months ago.

Just how long an administrative system without firmly applied rules and laws of conduct will remain sustainable remains to be seen but such measures would necessitate the CCP relinquishing powers to an independent judiciary. In the absence of an independently applied legal structure the incentive to be guided by opportunities for personal gain is already proven to be a more attractive option than ethical public service.

When you over turn a rock, the insects all run. I still believe that all this anti-corruption work is being done to target critics of King Xi the Flawless. I smell another purge of the Party.

It doesn't even matter if it's for real or not. This is a result of the values that have been promoted over the years, to a point where those corrupted officials aren't even aware anymore that they are doing something illegal and immoral. This is their way to be, they don't know anything else. Accumulating wealth is the sole and only reason they wake up every day. They don't consider public service as either a part of what they do or even a front justification of their dirty business. This is the core values of this society. Whether they truly have this will or not, this is not going away. You just don't say that it doesn't matter the color of the cat as long as it catches mice, and expect any different result.
