The Guangdong Public Security Bureau has investigated and punished an 80 people strong cult named “Huazang Zongmen”. The group’s leader, 47 year old Mr Wu, has been detained for crimes such as identity fraud and rape.
In 1990, he founded the cult and started using it for fraudulent purposes. Mr Wu said he got money off his disciples by promising to help them in their pursuit for health.
Mr Wu used “daily charity” as his excuse to persuade disciples to donate money, which he then conveniently pocketed himself. He also lied about his semen having supernatural powers in order to coerce his female disciples into having sex with him, and then forced them to have abortions.
On top of that, he charged thousands of RMB for special services, such as blessings and treatment for various diseases. He accumulated hundreds of thousands of RMB and lived like an emporer.
