Po Po Shut us Down- Randy’s Burgers Ordered to Close by Chengguan

Po Po Shut us Down- Randy’s Burgers Ordered to Close by Chengguan
Aug 18, 2014 By eChinacities.com

A 62 year old American man, whose burger stand has had people lining up around the block in Changzhou, Jiangsu Province, has been ordered to close by local urban managment officials.

Randy, as he was identified by the Yangtze Evening News, is apparently the vice president of a large company and set up the stall to conduct market research and get to understand a little about the life of a street vendor in China.

After his picture was posted on a local online forum, residents began flocking to his stall, with people starting to queue at 06:00 in order to get their hands on one of his burgers. However, his popularity was short lived after the local Chengguan caught wind of what was happening and ordered him to close.

His stall was violating ‘city appearance and sanitation management’, according to one Changzhou Chengguan. Hopefully he’ll be able to return soon, in a more official capacity.

Redguard

When I get angry with comments here I find foreign businesses and report them. One time this guy had a coffe shop. I made him lose his business. The best part is my uncle bought the place and now he owns a coffe shop in the same place.haha. So lucky.

As much as I hate the Chengguan and Chinese hate to see successful foreigners, the guy is still in violation of Chinese law. A Chinese person couldn't go to a western country and just "set up shop" on the side of the road without a permit. Still, it pisses me off that the Chengguan will go to all extremes to stop this foreign guy, while ebikes and cars run people of the footpaths and kids piss and shit everywhere. To say this food stall was violation the city's "sanitation" is a joke.

There are many similar stories in China. Read Mark Kitto's famous why I'm leaving China. If you get too successful they figure they can muscle in and take over and reap the profits but they always kill the goose. Have you ever know a country with so many laws that they arbitrarily enforce when the occasion suits? It happens on a bigger scale than pizzerias too. There are several Chinese-Australians in gaol/jail that were too successful. They had travel agencies, colleges and advanced medical products. In the end, the argument China for the Chinese will win every time. The level playing field slopes to nationalism. But the again, they do it to their own people too. We shouldn't feel special.
