Sichuan: Son’s Internet Addiction Drives Both Mother and Son to Suicide
Apr 10, 2014 By eChinacities.com

A tragic incident happened over the tomb sweeping festival holiday last weekend. A mother in Sichuan was so tired of dealing with her son’s internet addiction that she threw herself into a river; her son soon followed.

On April 4, 16 year old Xiao Ming didn’t head home after school; instead he went straight to the internet café. His mother went looking for him and they argued.

The situation escalated completely out of control as the mother, pulling her son along yelled at him ‘You spend all your time online, I can’t deal with you anymore, I may as well just die.’ She then proceeded to jump into the river.

The son was distraught and tried to catch hold of his mother to pull her out of the water, but she had been taken away by the current. Passersby went to his aid and tried calling the police. The boy’s father soon showed up and seeing the situation rounded on his son, blaming him and his online habit for the incident. The son apparently agreed, because soon after, he too jumped into the river.

The father was so shocked and upset that he then also attempted to jump into the river, shouting that he didn’t want to live anymore, but was pulled back by police.

Take life deathly serious; get rich or die trying... Why don't these people realize they're never going to be rich & famous? so why not make the most of life and try to enjoy it? Oh no, they'd sooner kill themselves than be reasonable.

Did they have some sort of freaky love affair? Why is the mother so jealous that her son of 16 doesn't want to spend time with her? Why is it that suicide is first on these peoples minds?

Yes it's ridiculous. Just goes to show the mentality of these people. This is why many Chinese don't care about others - because they don't give a fuck about themselves. Tragic... not really (it's not as if they fell in), just plain stupid. It is beyond me how these people think.

You can't really judge without knowing the whole story. Maybe arguments like this have gone on for months or years. In addition the mother may have lots of stress in her daily life and is not satidfied with her husband. Maybe she even didn't sleep well for a long time, so she couldn't really think. However, I agree that many Chinese don't care about others, but still, you can't refer to the whole population.
