PLA Colonel Claims H7N9 Virus is an “American Bio-Psychological Weapon”

There’s been a fair share of conspiracy theories tossed between China and America in recent times, though this one takes the cake so far.

Dai Xiu, a colonel in the People’s Liberation Army (PLA) who lectures at the National Defence University, recently posted to Weibo that the recent H7N9 outbreak was an “American bio-psychological weapon.” Dai continued, “The national leadership should not pay much attention to it, or it’ll be like in 2003 with SARS! All of China was in turmoil and that was exactly what the U.S. wanted. Now, the U.S. is using the same old trick.”

Dai’s post was re-blogged over 30,000 times on the social networking site, though despite some netizens agreeing with the theory, most were highly critical. Dai posted another controversial comment on the matter, but later deleted after even more biting criticism came his way: “Only a few will die, but that’s not even one-thousandth of those who die in car crashes in China.”

This comment led outspoken critic Lee Kai-fu to quip, “In that case, cars—the invention of cars by the U.S. and Germany—must have been an even greater conspiracy.”

Some have called for Dai to step down following his Weibo tirade and apologize to the families of those who have died of the flu virus.

By the way, there are a lot of foreigners (living/working) in the Shanghai, and Zhejiang, and Jiangsu areas...

Clearly it is all correct. Why would a hero of the revolution lie? 20 people have died but how many have been infected and will die and then probably come back as walkers; no offence to the Walker families of the world. Lucky we are in China and have access to all those samurai swords and the escape tunnels left after the Vietnam war, Genghis’s horses will come in handy too.

I get the distinct impression that the people in control don't like foreigners.
