Beggar Comes Home After 9 Years; Finds 7 million RMB Compensation in His Name

In July 2004, a man from a poverty-stricken area of Wenzhou named Zhu Jing decided to leave home, and much like other Wenzhou-nians decided that he would try and make a name for himself in the big wide world. However things didn’t go too well on the business front, with Zhu, presumably ashamed of his failings, eventually breaking off contact with his family.

Zhu then took to begging to earn money to get by, and sadly ended up contracting a serious case of tuberculosis. In February this year, Zhu received aid from a clinic in Pingxiang, Jiangxi, and on March 27, after 50 days of treatment, the clinic got in touch with a clinic in Wenzhou’s Pingyang County, subsequently locating his older brother, Zhu Zhong. After hearing word of his younger brother, Zhu Zhong was very excited, and couldn’t wait to catch up with his long lost brother of nine years.

After returning home, Zhu Zhong told his wayward brother that several years ago the village had undergone destruction and renovation, and that the authorities had left over 7 million RMB compensation in his name. Zhu Zhong knew that his brother had a very strong personality, and was probably unwilling to return home all this time as he didn’t want to lose face. During the nine years he was away however, Zhu Zhong had bought his little brother a commercial flat and had even invested money in a pension for him.
