On March 11, a Weibo user posted a picture of an unusual produce item for sale at the Sam’s Club supermarket in Beijing: pears that bear an unsettling resemblance to babies. For an extra bit of creepiness, the pears, named “Lucky Baby Pears” (吉祥娃娃梨) according to the bar code, are tightly wrapped in plastic, giving the disturbing imagery that baby pears are in fact suffocating. If you’re looking for a good gift to horrify your friends with, a set of two can be purchased for 20 RMB, although you’ll have to wait for the next shipment to come in, as they’ve already sold out.

The Chinese say if you eat them you live forever or at least have a long life. It's kind of like a fountain of youth idea.

Huh? I've seen these before but they were called "Buddha Pears". I agree that they are creepy.
