In October 2012, antique collector Mr Dong was invited to an exhibition in Hefei to display his collection of priceless Tang Dynasty vases, which he referred to as his "babies" At the airport, for reasons unknown, Mr Dong checked his priceless antiques in with the rest of the passengers’ luggage instead of bringing them into the cabin as carry-on items. Upon landing, Mr. Dong was distraught to discover that that eight of his "babies" were severely damaged. According to the compensation standards of China Eastern, Dong was only offered compensation amounting to 100 RMB per kilogram, even though his vases were reported to be worth millions. After reporting his story to a Shenyang newspaper, Mr. Dong has waited over half a year to receive a "fairer" answer from China Eastern.
