On the afternoon of February 16, shoppers in downtown Zhongshan (Guangdong Province) were exposed to images from a Western porn movie for about 20 minutes on a giant outdoor LED screen. The official Weibo account of the Zhongshan Public Security Bureau stated that the incident was caused by a “staff error,” noting that the personnel in question was to be investigated according to the law.

One Chinese netizen jested, “The police took it down too quickly! I had no time to appreciate it!” while a passerby quipped, “Luckily I was just walking past just in time to see that!” Onlookers’ reactions ranged from grins to expressions of shock.

That must have uh, aroused the interest of some teenagers. Porn is illegal in China, isn't it?

That's the official statement, at least. But maybe it means porn featuring Chinese, because it seems they love Japanese porn. A Chinese teacher I once accompanied to a video store picked up some DVDs that from what I could see before he quickly slipped them in a bag, they were porn--most likely Japanese. And what about that HK movie just a couple years ago billed as the first 3D porn movie in China. The article said an edited version was in the mainland so many mainlanders were going to see it in Hong Kong. Also, I've noticed that R rated movies I had seen in the states are more explicit here! So they get the unrated and/or European version on Chinese websites. There was that shutdown in the summer of the QVOD sites, with rumors that it was due to the availability to porn. But now many of the sites (laozhui.com) are back online. And those porn popups were back.
