Father of Great Firewall Suffers Weibo Tirade

Fang Binxing, the inventor of the infamous Great Fire Wall of China, received over 20,000 messages on his Weibo account telling him to “get lost” (滚) after he posted a message welcoming in the Year of the Snake. Writing in third person, Fang said “Fang Binxing wishes everyone a happy new year! I wish everyone success in the Year of the Snake!” Soon after, he began receiving a flood of angry messages from Chinese netizens.

Fang was previously on the end of a similar protest in May 2011 when students of Wuhan University mockingly welcomed him during a scheduled speech. Upon entering room 404 of the computer block, Fang was greeted with a screen depicting the infamously frustrating “404 not found” message, and was subsequently pelted with eggs by one particular student.

Hey that's pretty cool. Is there a video of the egg throwing on Youtube? I can't wait to tell my friends on facebook all about it.
