African Gigolo-Gate Scandal: Female Sinopec Executive Denies Sex Allegations

African Gigolo-Gate Scandal: Female Sinopec Executive Denies Sex Allegations

Editor’s note: This article was translated and edited from ifeng news and globaltimes.com. The article discusses a recent online post that appeared on China.com that accused a female executive of Sinopec of being bribed by a US supplier through the means of sexual favors by two African male prostitutes.

At the beginning of January, the “African gigolo-gate” scandal, regarding an elaborate attempt to obtain the details of a project by Chinese gas giant Sinopec, was posted on the internet and later became viral. The scandal apparently involved a multi-national US supplier employing two African male prostitutes in order to bribe and then blackmail a female executive.

According to the post, which appeared on China.com, the executive, who has been referred to only by her surname, Zhang, was caught on camera with two male escorts at a private club named “Obama” in the outskirts of Beijing. Zhang has strongly denied that she was involved in the act, and has taken measures to sue the user involved in posting the accusation.

Photographic threats

The US company, Agilent Technologies, apparently tried to win a bid with Sinopec by providing Zhang, who worked for Sinopec subsidiary China Petrochemical International, with sexual favors by two African male prostitutes. Agilent later sent the photographic evidence to Zhang and threatened to make them public if she didn’t help Agilent win their bid with Sinopec.

The bid in question was reportedly for an 18 billion RMB Sinopec-led ethylene project based in Wuhan. Zhang claims that the internet post and related accusations are illegitimate, and has demanded a police inquiry into the matter. “The internet rumor has caused serious damage to me and my family,” said Zhang.

Upon investigating the scandal, police arrived at the club and found that the owner had run away, though they managed to ascertain video footage and information from the club’s employees.

KGB trained “prostitute spying”

It was reported that the owner of the club, a man named Wei from Heilongjiang, had previously done business in Russia and was at the time trained by the KGB to perform such acts of “male prostitute spying.” Last year, Wei came back to China and set up his “Obama” nightclub, then began looking for young African men to offer sexual services.

Although the prices were high, the club and its gigolos quickly gained popularity within the upper echelons of Beijing society, with many female executives frequenting the club. Many well-known, wealthy women who, were either married to officials or celebrities, were known to visit the club, and were provided with the male escorts by the owner to seek favor. It is estimated that within its year of existence, the Obama club received over 100 female guests, including at least two who were said to be deputy officials.

During their encounters with the escorts, club owner Wei employed his KGB tricks by placing a secret camera in each room, and later used the footage to blackmail the women. The police are currently investigating the video evidence.

Both Agilent and Sinopec were not available for comments on the matter. A similar scandal reportedly occurred in 2009.

Guy looks Chinese, has Chinese skin, and Chinese hair... yet he's an African male prostitute? K. That's why he isn't looking at the camera, it's an obvious set up. If you ask me, the CCP is probably trying to prevent the U.S. from bidding.

Well my club offers normal healthy service to women. However, blackmail is not part of it. Women have needs just like men and should be free to engage in them in a fun way.

LOL, did a wumao just say that globaltimes.cn has committed a "gross abuse of [its] press freedom"? Do wumaos understand what the word 'freedom' means? And you guys wonder why the rest of the world acts the way it does to you... Don't worry though, we all know why she went with Africans instead of Chinese.

If your information is correct and validated by China's Public Security Bureau, then Wei and Agilent must be target of the investigation. Reporting on client like Zhang based on allegation is a gross abuse of your press freedom without giving Zhang a chance to defend herself. Please identify yourself rather than sign as eChinacities. Remember what goes around comes around. By the way, echinacities has been allowing advertisement of massage and escort services in the past. Allowing veiled prostitution to thrive through your publication makes you a party of promoting prostitution in China. Shame on you
