Yes, this is an effect caused by the diffraction of light within mist/water in the air. Chinese people actually assist each other in leaning forward off the mountain (this is common in MT. Omei, Sichuan, too) in the hopes of seeing this "miracle" and being blessed by buddha. I wonder the death rate of these people perched upon the edges of mountains, and I wonder if they still think of it as a miracle before their faces clap against every rock on the mountainside.
