Yao Ming Elected to NBA National Basketball Hall of Fame
Mar 31, 2016 By eChinacities.com

Yao Ming has been elected to the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame, according to ESPN’s Calvin Watkins and a number of other reports. Yao’s election in the Hall of Fame comes not from his accomplishment as a player but because he is largely responsible for the NBA’s huge market and reach in China.

Yao was nominated for inclusion as a special contributor to the sport by the newly created Direct Election Committee. Because of this, he did not have to compete head-to-head for spots with players like Shaq and Allen Iverson.

The Hall of Fame has a special policy where the committee can nominate players who have made outstanding contributions to the sport of basketball. Previously, former NBA commissioner David Stern was nominated and elected after his retirement in 2014.

Inclusion in the Hall of Fame is the highest honor available for NBA players, and is reserved for players who have made extraordinary achievements in their field and contributed to promoting basketball as a sport.

Why does he deserve to be in the Hall of Fame? He was a good player but unable to be on the floor for long periods. Like I said, he was a good player, but Hall of Famer, no!!!
