On November 26, the National Tourism Administration named Xining’s Kumbum Monastery a national 5A class tourist attraction. This is Qinghai Province’s second National 5A site, following Qinghai Lake last year.

Getting there: in Xining, take a bus or taxi from Kunlun Lu-Nanchuan Dong Lu intersection (8 RMB for bus, ~30 RMB for taxi), or from Xining’s Xinning bus stop (新宁路汽车站) take the bus to Kumbum Monastery (塔尔寺景区)
