Falling for a ridiculous spoof is not new to Chinese media. Remember when People’s Daily fell for The Onion’s spoof about Kim Jung-Un being the sexiest man alive? This time round the joke’s on Xinhua.
Recently, Xinhua published a group of photos that apparently documented a “Western execution”. The images were then quickly reposted on other sites too. However, people soon noticed that there was something slightly off the pictures, like maybe the fact that her dress was completely unbuttoned and half her chest was hanging out or the fact that you could see her lace underwear.
It turns out the images were stills from a hardcore porn movie called “Lethal Injection” which was produced by Peachy Keen Films.
The photos have since been removed from the sites.
Oh the embarrassment.
