Wuxi Transport - Train

The main line running through Wuxi is the Shanghai-Beijing line, on which travel across the whole of China is possible. Direct trains from Wuxi include Beijing (4.5 hrs), Guangzhou (25 hrs), Fuzhou (7.5 hrs), Ningbo (4 hrs) and Hangzhou (1.5 hrs). A high speed route between Shanghai and Nanjing means that both cities are accessible by rail in around an hour.

Wuxi has four train stations: Wuxi Railway Station, Wuxi New District Station, Huishan Station and Wuxi East Railway Station. Wuxi East Railway Station’s South Plaza has ordinary trains while the North Plaza has the Shanghai-Nanjing high-speed rail. The Beijing-Shanghai high-speed rail stops in the Wuxi East Railway Station.

The Wuxi Railway Station can be reached by a variety of buses in Wuxi and is situated toward the north of the city.

In 2010, Wuxi was added as a stop on the Beijing-Shanghai high-speed rail. The train from Wuxi to Beijing takes 4.5 hours and from Wuxi to Shanghai only 47 minutes.

There are three different ways to book a train ticket in Wuxi: over the phone, online and at the ticket window. Tickets can be purchased over the telephone (9510 5105) 4-12 days (tickets during Spring Festival travel rush are available 20 days in advance since January 2013, but this is subject to change). According to new rules introduced on Jan 1, 2013, all train tickets must be collected within 24 hours of purchase. Tickets are non transferable and are void if not used on the correct day.

To book tickets online, use the site www.12306.cn. Tickets can be reserved daily from 7:00-23:00 from 12-20 days in advance (subject to change; pre-sale booking periods often change during the Spring Festival and other important National Holidays). You can buy rail tickets at the sales window up to 10-20 days in advance (also subject to change).
