A Guizhou woman recently spent a week in administrative detention for sending an illegal video of graphic brutal killings to her circle of friends on WeChat.

Lee Mo is 42 year old woman from Dejiang, Guizhou who has reportedly been doing odd jobs in Yiwu for the last four or five years. On March 5, Lee Mo decided to forward a video her friend previously sent her to 2312 friends on WeChat, which quickly caught the attention of local police.

Police report that the day after receiving word of the video, they found Lee Mo at her residence and detained her. Lee Mo explained to police that she did not know that forwarding this video to her friends was illegal.

According to the 90th provision of the People’s Republic of China’s Anti-Terrorism Act, in the case of publishing terrorist activities or cruel and inhuman scenes, local public security can use the punishment they deem appropriate to the situation.

Yiwu police asked Lee Mo to remove the video and sentenced her to seven days in administrative detention.
