Woman Detained for ‘Pre-Selling’ Baby for 80,000 RMB

A young woman in Shandong, who was abandoned by the man who impregnated her, has been detained for selling her child to a couple for 80,000 RMB. They were discovered after someone informed on the couple reporting that they had in fact purchased their child.

Zou, the young woman, had a sexual relationship with a man; after she got pregnant, the man abandoned her. She didn’t wish to have an abortion as she was worried about the health implications and felt she was unable to raise a child alone, so she decided to ‘pre-sell’ the child.

She found a childless couple, who ‘pre-booked’ the baby before it was born through her neighbour who acted as a go between. The couple were relatives of the neighbour and had been married for over four years and weren’t able to have a child. They paid the neighbour 90,000 RMB ‘agent’s fee’ and 80,000 RMB to Zou on the arrival of the child, a baby boy.

After a police investigation, Zou was detained for illegal child trafficking- the report didn’t mention whether the neighbour or the couple would be charged, but the child will remain temporarily in their care whilst the authorities evaluate the case.

I don't see anything wrong with this (in context that this is China). Now the government will essentially sell the baby. Why do people in this country have such big fat mouths? You are doing something illegal, do you have to show off to everyone about how much you are paying for your baby? Say someone is being a surrogate free of charge.
