WSJ: Google to Return to China with Android App Store

The Wall Street Journal reported on September 4 that Google is in talks with the Chinese government and manufacturers to launch a new Android app store in China.

Google’s Android system is the world’s most popular smartphone operating system, but is not authorized in the Chinese market. Google has been out of the Chinese market for five years.

U.S. tech site The Information reported that Google may launch the first Chinese version of its Google Play store in this fall.

Google declined to comment on the rumors.

Google’s new look towards the Chinese market may be related to its new CEO, Sundar Pichai. On August 11, Google established a holding company Alphabet.

Earlier this year, Pichai said in an interview that Google would welcome the opportunity to re-enter the Mainland Chinese market.

The Chinese market has also changed drastically since Google left in 2011. Chinese companies make up four out of the world’s top ten internet companies (Alibaba, Tencent, Baidu, and JD). Google cannot ignore the huge Chinese market.

The Wall Street Journal also reported that Google hopes to release a new phone by the end of the year to the Chinese market.

HAha, in their arrogant face! Google needs to learn humility one day. Today is that day.
