Urumqi Transport - Introduction

Urumqi' s advantageous location has ensured its reputation as a key transportation link between cities in landlocked Xinjiang.

The international airport in Urumqi has 90 domestic air routes and 21 foreign routes, flying to Russia, Uzbekistan, Pakistan, Kazakhstan and Kyrgyzstan. The Urumqi Railway Station connects the city by rail to six major Chinese cities: Xi' an, Shanghai, Beijing, Chengdu, Zhengzhou and Lanzhou, as well as numerous local destinations.

Three national highways (216, 312 and 314) and ten provincial roads link Urumqi with the rest of Xinjiang' s surrounding counties. Long-distance buses go to most cities in Xinjiang every day.
