On June 30, the city of Lichuan, Hubei, was added to the Shanghai-Wuhan-Chongqing-Chengdu railway channel, which will cut down journey times from Chongqing to various major cities dramatically.

At the end of the year, trains from Chongqing to Wuhan will be cut from 15 to five hours; trains to Beijing will be cut from 23 to ten hours, and trains from Chongqing to Shanghai will only take nine hours as opposed to 25. Also, journey times from Chongqing to Guangzhou will be reduced from 22 to eight hours.
