Tourism to Beijing at a 5 Year Low; Pollution a Factor
Aug 05, 2013 By eChinacities.com

According to the Beijing Municipal Tourism Committee, 108 million domestic tourists have visited Beijing in the first half of 2013. However, the total number of inbound tourists who stay the night in Beijing has dropped 14.3% compared to the same period last year, accounting for only 2.14 million people. This is the first time in five years that these figures have dropped.

Official statistics reported that the number of inbound tourists saw a decline all over China, down 4.2% from 2012. Some of the proposed factors include weak global economy, frequent air pollution and appreciation in value of Renminbi that has lead to an increase in travel costs to China.

With the new ridiculous visa laws these figures will continue to decline.
