Economic Overview
Strategically located a mere 120 km from the country's corridors of power, the centrally-administered municipality of Tianjin is the kingpin of an internationally influential Bohai Sea shipping triumvirate which includes the port cities of Dalian and Qingdao. The largest coastal city in northern China, Tianjin has become an integral part of China's national economic development strategy and has maintained a sustained period of rapid economic growth at a rate of more than 10% per annum.

In 2006, the GDP of Tianjin surpassed 433 billion RMB, an increase of 14% over the previous year. GDP per capita exceeds US$5,200 and the average disposable income of urban residents was 14,283 RMB, an increase of 13%.

Tianjin is Northern China's biggest trade port and is home to the most expansive container dock facility in the country, served by an elaborate modern network of sea links, railways and roads. Considered a strategic stronghold and a gateway to Beijing, it plays host, intermediary and trade partner to businesses and enterprises from over 170 different countries world-wide.
