In China’s Northwest, eight people were executed in Xinjiang, three of which were responsible for the attack on Beijing’s Tiananmen Square last October which killed five.

The three suspects were Huseyin Guxur, Yusup Wherniyas and Yusup Ehmet, who, as Xinhua News Agency stated, masterminded the attack. The other five that were executed were found guilty of other charges, namely arson, bomb-making and terrorism.

China’s Xinjiang province is home to many Muslim Uighurs, and clashes between Uighurs and Han Chinese have been leading to a lot of tension in the past few months. Just last month, dozens were killed in an attack on a Xinjiang police station, whilst a lot of the violence we have seen in the past year has also been linked to tension between Uighurs and Han Chinese.
