Three-Flower Liquor  三花酒
With a history going back more than 200 years, “Three-Flower Liquor” is one of Guilin’s best-known products, its name reflecting its three-part distillation process. Because of its high alcohol content, beads of alcohol form around the rim of the bottle. Shake the bottle and the beads will remain: for this reason, it is also sometimes known as "Thrice-Distilled Beads Liquor." Three-Flower Liquor is known for its rice and honey scent, its delicate taste, and its lasting finish.

Guilin Fermented Bean Curd 桂林腐乳
Guilin fermented bean curd has enjoyed a high reputation for more than 200 years. It is delicate, smooth, soft, and nutritious, and comes in different varieties such as “spicy” or “five-flavor.” Fermented bean curd is also used as an ingredient in many local dishes, such as roasted pig. Its sauce can be used as a broth for chicken or other meats.

There are various kinds of Guilin Chili Catsup including mashed-garlic chili catsup, lobster sauce chili catsup, etc. It’s flavorful, hot, spicy and fragrant.

Osmanthus (Tea Olive) Tea 桂花茶
Osmanthus Tea, or ‘Tea Olive’ Tea, is popular because of its gentle aroma and delicious taste. Osmanthus Tea contains healthful minerals such as selenium, cobalt, manganese, and molybdenum, which stimulate brain activity and prevent drowsiness.

Guilin means "Forest of Osmanthus" in Chinese. Osmanthus blooms in the autumn (October) and is known for its distinctive aroma. Typically sold in small bottles, Osmanthus wine is fragrant and has a delicate taste.

Painted fans 画扇
Painted fans are delicate and colorful, and make a great gift for the special person in your life. Fans are available in various colors, sizes and materials: heavy bamboo and white cloth is for men, while delicate bamboo or silk is for women. Craftsmanship must be reflected in the detail. Local painters in Yangshuo particularly enjoy depicting birds, flowers, insects and traditional Chinese girls. These fans are widely available in Yangshuo and Guilin in boutiques and in weekend markets. These beautiful fans not only make great decorations, but are genuinely useful for cooling off on a summer’s day!

Landscape Paintings 山水书画
Landscape paintings are reproductions of the natural beauty of Guilin; the province’s landscapes are known to have inspired artists from the Song Dynasty onward. Modern artists such as Xu Beihong, Huang Binhong, Li Keran, and Qi Baishi have all created important works after visiting Guilin.

Boxwood Comb 木梳
Boxwood combs are made out of rare boxwood. Comb handicraftsmen are known for their skill in selecting materials, their carving technique, and their patterns and decorations. Choose from many shapes and sizes including: the carp comb, the bamboo-section comb, the half-circle comb, and the peg-heart comb. These combs were admired by Indian maharajas and nobles of the Ming Dynasty, and hence are sometimes known as the "Palace Comb".

Bamboo Fine-toothed Comb 竹篦
Guilin fine-toothed combs are known for their delicate craftsmanship. They are usually made out of Nan bamboo, a local bamboo. Once you use a Guilin bamboo fine-toothed comb, you will not want any other. Their teeth are soft, flexible and absorb unwanted hair oil. With many vibrant colors, interesting shapes and delicate carvings to choose from, you’ll definitely want to look around before settling on one to buy.

Pottery and Porcelain 陶瓷
Guilin pottery and porcelain are made exclusively from local clay. If you don’t see what you’re looking for, try showing a picture of what you want to your local potter and he’ll try to recreate it.

Jade Sculpture 玉雕
Guilin’s artists create wonderful jade carvings, reflecting their many years of experience. Jade comes in a rainbow of colors: agate, xiuyu, miyu, crystal, pine-stone and azure-stone. Traditional Chinese jade-work includes figurines, flowers, birds, bottles, and so on.

Stone Sculpture 石雕
Guilin has been famed for its sculptures since the Tang Dynasty. At least 500 stone Buddhas have been found in the cliffs of North Hill, Fupo Hill, Silk Double Hill, etc., and they have provided inspiration for today’s stone sculptors of Guilin.

Guilin stone sculptures are mostly made out of Guangxi Luchuan stone and Dongxing stone, which comes in shades of emerald, ink-green and bright green similar to translucent jade. Fongxing stone is colorful, smooth, pure and beautiful, comparable in beauty to Shoushan stone. Local artists create strikingly beautiful Guilin landscapes, lifelike animals, flowers, birds, fishes and insects, as well as Buddhas, out of the stone.

Embroidered balls (Pao Xiuqiu) 绣球
“Xiuqiu” is a fist-sized bundle of colored silk used for games or to express one’s emotions. In Guilin, they are used to attract the opposite sex. They come in various shapes, including balls, squares, diamonds, and animals. All shapes come with a colorful band and silk tassels at opposite ends. They are stuffed with chaff or cottonseeds, and usually weigh less than 0.5 kg .

In Guilin two teams (male vs. female) will challenge each other to a game with Pao Xiuqiu. One side will toss the ball into the other team’s court, and they must catch the ball before it hits the ground. If they fail to do so, they have to sing a song or give a performance. They then toss the ball back to the first team, and so on.
With a different tossing strategy, embroidered balls also can be used as a token of love. In this case, the girl secretly tries to throw the ball to the object of her affection, and, if he is successful in catching the ball, the man will present a handkerchief or a towel to the young lady. They continue in this fashion, singing antiphonally to gain further understanding of one other. Another method when a girl likes a young man is to toss the ball to him. If the man who gets the ball has the same feeling, he will tie a present on the ball and toss it back.

Wood Sculpture and Bamboo Sculpture 竹木雕刻
Drawing on the art of Chinese paintings and the beautiful Guilin landscape, bamboo and boxwood sculptures and carvings make excellent souvenirs of Guilin. Some of the carved craftwork available includes: chopsticks, jardinières, boxes for tealeaves, folding screens, pencil vases, and many other attractive decorations. 

Shatian pomelo 沙田柚
Shatian pomelo, produced in Yangshuo, has a cultivation history going back over 200 years.  This bright yellow fruit weighs from 1 to 1.5 kg, and has a sweet, juicy, transparent pulp. Shatian pomelo is nutritious, with more Vitamin C than oranges or lemons. The Chinese believe that pomelos nourish the intestines, and that eating them in the winter can help improve your immune system. Pomelo peel is used to help cure phlegm, cough and congestion problems. 

Lipu taro 荔浦芋头
Produced in Lipu County, Lipu taro was once given as tribute to Chinese royalty by the population of Guangxi during a grand ceremony at the end of every year. The vegetable is known not only for its size but also for its nutritional benefits. Cut into pieces and fried in oil with added meat makes the local specialty "fried looped meat". Lipu taro can be cooked in a variety of other ways, too, including boiled with milk powder, or lightly fried with fish, pork, chicken, and winter bamboo shoots. It’s fragrant, sweet, tasty, and tender—a true delicacy!

Cumquat 金柑
Cumquats are one of the famous fruits of Guilin, boasting a thin golden skin, and sweet, delicate, juicy flesh. Because their rinds are delicate, they are difficult to peel, so just make sure to wash them well before popping one into your mouth. Cumquats are rich in Vitamin C and other vitamins and minerals. Chinese believe that they can prevent colds, lower blood pressure, reduce phlegm, and cure coughs and dehydration. Cumquats are often used in baking: "cumquat cake", "cumquat sweet" and "cumquat can" are popular both in China and abroad. Peak availability for the fruit is in mid-December.

Momordica Grosvenor 罗汉果
Momordica grosvenor is sweet, fragrant dried fruit used a Chinese traditional medicine. According to practitioners of traditional medicine, it can reduce fever, suppress coughs, reduce phlegm, improve liver function, strengthen the spleen, improve brain function, and reduce high blood pressure. Most people use it as an additive to soup, many people in Guilin eating it on daily basis. If you want to try some, make sure to buy a big round one, not too moist and not too dry.

Water Chestnut 桂林马蹄
Water chestnuts grown in Guilin have thin skin, thick pulp, a milky white color and a sweet taste. They can be eaten by themselves or in other dishes. A related plant is the Guilin chufa, which can be eaten as a fruit or as a vegetable. Chufas, sometimes referred to as “tiger nuts” in the West, can be made into chufa paste or chufa panocha, and will add an extra zest to your cooking.

Gingko 银杏
The gingko tree is described as a “living fossil.” Gingko is said to promote healthy blood circulation, moisturize the skin and rejuvenate the body. It’s used as an ingredient in various local foods and beverages.
