The Big Four 1st Tier Cities Listed on World’s Top 50 For Cost of Living

According to a report by the International Human Resources Consultancy Agency ECA, China ‘Big Four’ 1st Tier cities are among the world’s top 50 cities for cost of living. Beijing, Shanghai, Guangzhou and Shenzhen are ranked 15, 18, 38, and 40 respectively.

The survey focused on the cost of necessities among other consumption indexes for 440 of the worlds cities. The top three cities may surprise you: Caracas, Venezuela; Luanda, Angola; and Oslo, Norway.

I can agree with Caracas being awfully expensive. It is mainly because the rent prices are way too high plus the huge inflation of the country, in large part due to oil riches and economic mismanagement. Plus the traffic is awful as well. If you ever plan to go there, go to the countryside, either the Andes, the Amazon or the beaches, impressive views and a lot more cheaper.

I checked the actual study on ECA website... It s for the cost for an expat sent by his/her company. Top cities are Caracas, Juba, Luanda...where the locals level of life is fairly low, under a crisis, etc... So some of those top cities are not expensive, but are places where recreating a Western expat bubble going to cost dearly.
