Taxi Regulation Change for Taxi Bookings in Big Cities

Taxi Regulation Change for Taxi Bookings in Big Cities
Oct 24, 2014 By eChinacities.com

On October 20, the Chinese Ministry of Transport announced the following new regulation: from January 1 2015 taxi’s in cities that are above county level will only be allowed to accept an appointment if they are specifically designated booking taxi’s rather than the kind that you hail down on the street. These taxi’s will also have another colour to indicate this difference.

The reasons for introducing this regulation is simple; firstly, in big cities, there are a lot of empty taxi’s without customers as there is low demand, creating a confusing and serious traffic and transport issue. Secondly, the current car booking market is relatively chaotic, and there are a lot of lawless car booking services.

Because of the reasons mentioned above, procedures can be simplified and illegal operations avoided, making the taxi situation more convenient for everyone.

And so will this new program be expanded to those who can not speak Chinese well? For example, tourists and long term expats in China will have trouble finding taxis in random parts of some cities due to their unfamiliarity of the area. If there is an app, I'm guessing there is, for this program my concern is a multi-language function to help all visitors and commuters.
