Taiwan’s First Female President Tsai Ing-wen Inaugurated in Taipei
May 23, 2016 By eChinacities.com

Taiwan has inaugurated Tsai Ing-wen, the nation’s first female president. Tsai took the oath of office today at Taipei’s Presidential Office Building. She is the second person not in the Kuomintang Party to rule Taiwan in history.

Tsai faces many challenges as the new president of Taiwan. Taiwan’s economy has fallen into a recession as exports have recently slowed. Relations between Taiwan and Beijing have grown increasingly intense over the conflict over territorial claims.

The Taipai Times reported that nearly 700 heads of states, diplomats and foreign dignitaries from 59 countries around the world attended the inauguration.
