Study Abroad Boom for Chinese Teenagers in Past Decade
Dec 22, 2014 By eChinacities.com

The number of Chinese teenagers heading to the US to study has increased 60- fold in the last decade, according to a study by the Social Sciences Academic Press.

During the academic year of 2003-2004, only 433 Chinese students were studying at US high schools across both the public and private sector; in the past ten years, that number has ballooned to 27,000.

The study showed that families sent their children to the US as they believe that they can receive a better quality of education there, and also hope to improve their language skills.

However, experts have also warned against ‘blindly’ sending their children abroad as they might not be ready to handle living independently- common problems include difficulty with integration and struggling to finish school work.
