Spring Festival Travelers Caught Evading Train Fares to Be Blacklisted

Travelers who are caught trying to evade fares on trains during Spring Festival will earn a spot of on China’s infamous tourist blacklist.

Being on the blacklist affects ones credit score, and ability to buy a home. Passengers without tickets must find a staff member and purchase a replacement ticket within 20 minutes of departure.  

How is fare evasion defined? Travelers with forged or altered rickets, who have borrowed or forged student cards, military ID cards, or disability certificates with purchased tickets with them are classified as fare evaders. When caught, those who refuse to buy a replacement ticket will have their information collected by staff and sent to local government institutions.
