Feb 26, 2013 By eChinacities.com

Recently, American sports magazine Sports Illustrated published its 2013 swimsuit calendar online. There are a total of 17 well-known models and athletes photographed in the calendar, which was shot at various locations around the world. Three of the models had their photos taken in Guilin, Guangxi Province, and are seen with local Chinese people in the background. One particular picture, where a Chinese fisherman is seen pushing a raft with a model sitting on it, has drawn criticism from Chinese netizens who believe the image is a depiction of racial stereotypes.

What, pray tell, is the racial stereotype in the photo? A hot model or a fisherman? Both types exist in most societies and cultures - even today! And even MORE SO in China! Duh! It doesn't make them stereotypes, for crying out loud. Hey! Maybe it's the fake buzzard on the old fisher's wrist that is a great cause for alarm! Lighten up, netcits and enjoy your hotties and oldies! For fuck's sake.

its not a buzzard. old chinese methods of fishing, the birds have lines around their throat to stop them eating the fish, then birds go into the water and bring fish up, after a few hours the fish man gives the birds some scraps and the birds carry on. its now almost a dead tradition and is only kept up to give tourists what they want. however modern techniques of trawling the river has made it a non viable occupation now. amazing what you learn right?? haha mark in Hangzhou
