Mar 20, 2013 By eChinacities.com

China’s first ever sleep index report was released in Beijing on March 19, which suggests the stress of big city life has affected many. The reported used terms such as “current sleep situation,” “sleeping environment,” and “sleep management,” with the 20 cities assessed being divided into “good dream cities,” “good sleep cities,” “shallow sleep cities,” and “insomnia cities.”

According to the report’s findings, Beijing, Guangzhou, Xining, Dongguan and Kunming all fell under the “insomnia city” label, whilst Shanghai, Nanchang, Tianjin, Huainan, and Chengdu were all classed as “shallow sleeping cities.” Nanjing, Wuhan, Shenyang, and Hangzhou seem to be better off as they were classed as “good sleep cities,” whilst Xiamen, Zhengzhou, Qiqihaer, Chongqing, and Xi’an were all declared as cities where residents frequently have good dreams. The report found that family stress affected the sleep of 82.8% of those in Beijing and 82.4% of those in Guangzhou.
