Sina Weibo to Launch Earthquake Notification Service

Sina Weibo to Launch Earthquake Notification Service
Sep 05, 2013 By eChinacities.com

Sina Weibo, which is currently under mounting pressure by competitor WeChat, has introduced a new feature on its social media site that allows followers to obtain earthquake announcements almost immediately after an earthquake occurs.

The new feature was announced by China’s state seismological bureau who are reportedly collaborating with Sina Weibo, and is available to users in the vicinity of the earthquake. The notices are sent via private message 10-100 seconds after the quake. To avail of the service, simply follow “中国地震台网速报” on Sina Weibo.
