Shenzhen to Open Carbon Trading to Foreign Investors

Shenzhen will be the first Chinese city to allow foreign investors to trade carbon permits, according to an announcement made on the China Emissions Exchange website last Friday.

China, one of the biggest emitters of greenhouse gases in the world, launched a pilot carbon trading project across seven Chinese cities last year. So far, the scheme hasn’t been open to foreign enterprises.

Shenzhen’s carbon trading market is the most valuable in China, worth over 100 million RMB this year. Analysts hope that foreign enterprises with previous experience in carbon trading will further boost this market.
