Shanghai and Beijing Ranked 3rd and 4th in Asia for Cost of Living
Jan 07, 2015 By eChinacities.com

A recent survey by ECA International has revealed that Shanghai and Beijing are the third and fourth most expensive cities in Asia for expats respectively, rising above Singapore and Hong Kong for cost of living.

Among the 257 cities surveyed, Caracas was deemed most expensive whilst Norway's Oslo came second. No Asian cities ranked in the top ten, as Tokyo dropped from sixth place last year, to eleventh.

Just two years ago, Tokyo was the most expensive city in the world according to the same survey, but has dropped down the rankings, in part due to the weakening Yen.

Seoul was ranked sixteenth overall, making it the second most expensive city in Asia, whilst Shanghai and Beijing were ranked eighteenth and twentieth overall.

It is even higher if you factor in the cost of lung cancer treatment down the road after living in these places. Up, up and away! Or is it? LOL

Either way, China is becoming just way too expensive when you consider what you get for your money. HK, Singapore or Tokyo are much more livable places than Beijing or Shanghai - especially for foreigners.

If Tokyo is down at 11th place and Beijing and Shanghai have "risen above" HK and Singapore, which are 1st and 2nd?! And Norway is now a city, interesting article...

Nowhere does it say that HK and Singapore are 1st and 2nd, just that Beijing and Shanghai are above them.
