Segway Ban on Shanghai Roads

Shanghai Police have issued reminder to riders of Segways and electric unicycles that the ‘vehicles’ aren’t fit for road use and use should be restricted to pavements and parks.

Although driving Segways on the road is a legal grey area as there is no legislation that explicitly refers to it, drivers will be ordered off the road by traffic police if caught.

The announcement comes after a Segway driver broke his neck after colliding with a car at an intersection in Xinzhuang earlier this year.
