Sanya's nightlife scene isn't known for its sophistication. After a very late start, this newborn industry seems to overcompensate with a whirl of blinding lighting and by-the-bottle liquor. Unless low-key resort lounges are your ideal party location, finding a truly great club in Sanya may be elusive and depends on your tolerance for Siberian air conditioning. That doesn't mean, however, you won't have any fun.

Most of the rollicking dance club activity centers around downtown Dadonghai and Sanya Bay, where KTVs and a diversity of bars are populated by fashionable Chinese and foreign (largely Russian) youngsters hopping from spot to spot. Yalong Bay also has a smattering of bars and lounges catering to a slightly older crowd. Prices usually run a little higher here and ambiances tend towards mellow. If all else fails, a midnight stroll on the beach is never a disappointment.
