Sanya Hotel Stripped of 5-Star Status for Food Poisoning

Howard Johnson Resort Sanya Bay was stripped of its 5-Star rating following a food poisoning case that affected over 120 hotel guests, according to an online statement by the State Food and Drug Administration on August 27. The Center for Disease Control and Prevention determined that Salmonella Dublin was the culprit behind the food poisoning. Sanya's Food and Drug Bureau also decided to take action by fining the resort 679,800 RMB. In addition, members of the National Tourism Star Hotel Evaluation Committee are expected to announce the cancellation of 5-Star hotel ratings nationwide.
