Mr. Zhang, a 21-year-old motorcyclist from Baoting County in Sanya, was sentenced to death after being found guilty for the rape of 10 women. Mr. Zhang, who would offer rides to travelers on his motorbike, took his victims to remote areas before using violent means to rape them and rob them of their belongings. The court heard that he had committed this crime ten times in half a year. On August 2, Zhang was sentenced to death with a two-year reprieve, saw his political rights suspended and was fined 20,000 RMB.
