Sandstorm Paralyzes Gansu with 50 Meter Visibility
Apr 24, 2014 By eChinacities.com

Large areas of China’s North Western Gansu Province were hit by a devastating sandstorm yesterday. The effects of the storm were paralyzing as visibility dropped to as low as 50 meters, according to the Gansu Meteorology Center.

Traffic was slowed to a near stop and people either stayed indoors or wore masks to minimize the health risks of the sand. This year’s storm marks one of the worst in recent memory with a particularly bad version, which took place in 2012, only reducing visibility to 900 meters. This time of year is synonymous with sandstorms in Gansu, especially after the very low level of precipitation in winter.
