Russia has surpassed Saudi Arabia to become China’s largest crude oil provider, according to data released by Chinese customs. The data shows that in May, China’s imports of Russian crude shot up by 20% from the previous month, exceeding 3.9 million tones. Oil from Saudi Arabia fell to 310 tons by comparison, amounting to an 18% drop in imports from that country.
China’s increased imports of Russian oil have come relatively along the same pace of Russia’s desire to broaden its export market.
