Paris-Beijing French Focus on China, Photography Exhibition

The Guangdong Museum of Art is offering a free exhibition next month that will give visitors a unique glimpse into China’s historical relationship with France.

A collection of photos that document a period spanning 160 years, the exhibition focuses on the experiences of the diplomats, soldiers, missionaries and adventurers who explored the middle kingdom, from the Qing dynasty to modern day China.

The earliest photographs in the collection were taken in 1844, when photography was in its infancy, and the collection progresses to document China’s tumultuous history, from the Opium Wars to the fall of the Qing Dynasty, the foundation of New China, opening up to the West and everything in-between.

The exhibition will be running for a month, from June 6- July 6
