An official in Liuzhou, Guangxi has been suspended for throwing a tantrum following a random police spot check on his vehicle and then ordering that a set of traffic lights in the busy city center be turned off. Result: absolute chaos, and all in the name of selfishness.

The man, surnamed Huang, who reportedly works for Liuzhou’s lighting administration, became upset after at a traffic policeman pulled his vehicle over for a random spot check at a busy intersection at around 11:00 on May 17.

Furious from the encounter, Huang then had the lights turned off at 12:15, resulting in major traffic congestion that lasted until 12:50, when the lights were finally turned back after the police notified Huang’s boss.

Both Huang and his boss have been suspended for the violation of work regulations, and the incident is currently under investigation by the authorities.

Why would the fact that traffic lights weren't working be a reason for a traffic jam? I was under the impression that nobody obeyed the signals anyway!
